Prominence Health, a subsidiary of UHS, is a strategic, value-based organization driving provider alignment and enterprise value. Prominence Health creates value for populations and providers in strengthening integrated partnership, advancing market opportunities and improving outcomes. Prominence Health serves members, physicians and health systems across Medicare, Medicare Advantage, Accountable Care Organizations and commercial payer partnerships. 

Currently insuring members in Nevada and parts of Texas, California and Florida, Prominence Health Plan contracts with local UHS-subsidiary hospitals and health systems, physician groups and other providers in narrow networks.

Prominence Accountable Care currently operates seven ACOs across five states – California, Florida, Nevada, Texas and Washington, DC. And through Prominence Health’s Value-Based Enablement arm, the organization offers consulting, centralized services, mission-driven ventures and data platforms.

Our History

Originally known as St. Mary’s Health Plan, Prominence Health Plan started in 1993 as a commercial health maintenance organization, or HMO, in Reno, Nevada. 

Prominence Health Plan was acquired by a subsidiary of UHS in July 2014. Over the ensuing years, the business grew to provide commercial insurance coverage to local employers with a broad Preferred Provider Organization (PPO) network, in addition to Medicare Advantage insurance to local seniors. The company also offers administrative services to larger local employers who provide direct healthcare insurance to staff. Prominence Health is able to leverage the expertise and resources of parent company UHS and aims to be in-network with geographically aligned acute care hospitals, behavioral health facilities and ambulatory care sites, supporting our combined charter of making healthcare more efficient and patient centered through Service Excellence.

Three Key Lines of Business

Prominence Health’s operations have expanded over the years to now focus on these lines of business:

• • Health Care Coverage. Prominence Health Plan offers a range of value-focused health plans tailored to meet the diverse needs of its individuals and businesses. These include Medicare Advantage, commercial health plans and self-funded options. PHP’s commercial plans offer flexible options for businesses, allowing employers to tailor benefits to their workforce.
  • Accountable Care. Prominence offers self-funded plans that provide businesses with greater flexibility and control over healthcare costs. These plans allow employers to design benefits tailored to the specific needs of their employees. Prominence’s administrative services help manage these plans efficiently, enabling organizations to offer comprehensive health benefits while keeping expenses in check. This is especially beneficial for larger organizations aiming to optimize healthcare spending without compromising quality.
